Blogging and Job Interviews
June 11th, 2006 | by audit |Well Slashdot has a interesting thread going on about how companies are researching potential employee’s on the internet before they hire them. I find this quite interesting since people have lives outside of work, (yes we really do) and what we do outside of the workplace shouldn’t affect if we get a job or not.
Thoughts?

I think that is a very interesting topic. I agree with you, what you do on your own free time is your business, and it shouldn’t affect your employment chances. However, if I was researching a candidate and came across a blog of his on the internet and it’s talking about how he likes to watch little girls in the park or something uber-creepy like that, I don’t think I’d be hiring him, no matter how good he was. Employers take a huge chance when they hire someone, because they simply don’t know if they ‘ll work out or not. It’s expensive to replace people, and I’m sure they’d like to hire one person and keep them as long as possible. Today’s internet presents a great opportunity for researching potential candidates, and I can’t fault them for taking advantage of it.
