Small game season opens today, that means camera’s going to be busy

So my daughter picked a great date to be born. I’ve always remembered when small game season started in Michigan for the last 10 years because it was on her birthday which is today. This year her and I are going to be spending a lot of time in the woods shooting small game and then deer when that season opens but instead of shooting for meat, we’re doing it for pictures. I’m researching a  good low light zoon lens to use and will be testing it out around my neighborhood over the next week since we have a lot of deer that have been coming out earlier in the evening now. That’s one reason why I always have my camera with me now with a couple lenses everywhere I go, including work because on the way home, I’m always seeing the deer out in some of the fields.

Tonight I’m leaving the office early because we’re taking our daughter out for dinner and I know on the way home, we’ll be passing a LOT of fields where we ALWAYS see deer at. We’re both hoping that the light will still be enough where I can get some good pictures, it all depends on if I can get the settings right on my camera in relation to the lighting at the time we see them.

This will be a odd year for me being in the woods to just take pictures, I have a wide shot lens that I’ll be putting on for the field and my tree stand or tree condo as my daughter likes to call it. Next weekend I’ll be heading out to it to clean it up and make sure the coon that takes it over every summer is out of it and make sure he can’t get back in it again. I’m not risking another 30ft fall down to the ground again because that thing thinks that it’s his and comes at me again. Of course I’ll get the brushpile together under the stand in case it happens again. The last time we can face to face, that brushpile is the only thing that saved me from busting up even worse then I did with a broken nose and a few cuts.

Hopefully I’ll get some good pictures this year, it all depends on the home owner and if he gave my spot to another hunter because he knows I’m out of the game now due to my back. I don’t think he will because he knows how much my daughter loved going with me and I put a LOT of work into rebuilding that thing to make it safe and secure.
