Finally got the wife on the Blackberry now.
October 4th, 2008 | by admin |After a couple years of trying to get my wife to use a blackberry for her to keep track of her appointments and when to take her meds. I’ve changed her primary email address to a new one that has much better spam protection also and only a few friends and family have that address. Since this Blackberry is my spare or should I say, WAS my spare, it already has all the software and license keys for the call filtering software, and a few other things that I think she’ll get good use out of.
Today I installed some GPS tracking software on it so the kids and I can see where she’s at when she’s out shopping or when she’s on one of her walks. It should be fun.
Now my mother in-law called yesterday to tell Karen that she bought a new 3G iPhone so she wouldn’t need to worry about carrying her laptop around on her bike trips. I tried to talk her into a Blackberry while she was here visiting but she likes the way the iPhone’s browser renders pages. I can’t blame her there as that’s one thing the Blackberry does not excel in. She doesn’t rely on email much but does need the web browser for checking out hotels in the area’s as well as her harley club’s website.
So now the kids are asking when they are getting their Blackberry’s. My son is 12 and a lot of his friends have either an iPhone, Blackberry or Sidekick. I just can’t justify spending that much on him right now. Maybe once he hits High School and has a part time job to help pay for the bill, then I’ll look into it for him. Our daughter just doesn’t need one at her age right now, she has fun playing with my wife’s 8820 Blackberry at home and she only really needs a cell as an emergency in case something happens anyhow.
